WiKiS aNd NiNgS

1. What do i know about Wikis and Nings? I dont know alot about either of these topics. what i do know is that Wiki Wiki means quick quick in Hawaiian. How ever when it comes to Nings i have never heard of them before now.
2. Where does the term Wikipedia come from? The wiki comes from a bus service at the Hawaii International Airport which is called the Wiki Wiki bus. This bus service has taken people from the main part of the airport to the international/domestic side since the mid 1960's. Wiki Wiki means quick quick in Hawaiian. Last but not least the ''pedia'' part is taken from encyclopedia. All in all Wikipedia means quick encyclopedia.
3. Who invented it? when? and why? In 2001 Jimmy Wales and Larry Sange launched a site that has now become one of the largest and best known sites for fast easy answers. It was made because its a fast encyclopedia that anyone can edit.
4. Whats unique about Wikis versus other websites? Wikis can be edited and instantly published where as other sites you cant edit the information on them and or publish new information on the other sites.
5. Wikis can be used within classrooms, but tell me this: what are the advantages and disadvantages to creating a Wiki for classroom use? As a student, and as a teacher? Wikis are a fast and simple way to get information for teachers and students and it prevents you from having to search the wed for hours or having to find the right book and getting the information. However as stated before you can change the information so you dont know if the information is 100% exact.
6. What is a Ning? A Ning is an online platform for people to create their own social networks.
7. How can a Ning be used within a class room? They can be used very easily within a class room. Like in this digital comp class one we have one and you submit and assignment and or information and we can go in and edit it and ask others questions and have them answered.
8. Whats similar between Nings and Wikis? On both you can add information to the already existing site and change it. And in ways they differ, Wikis you are able to go in and change the information to the already existing info and with Nigs you can change the information ask questions to others you might have and have others answer them.
9. What have i learned? I learned what Wikipedia meant and who created it and why. Also i learned what a Ning is and what it is used for. I think i would prefer Wikipedia because its fast and easy, also because it is much easier in my opinion too use.
